About the Book
          

Annamalai University, Department of Business Administration conducted a National level workshop on “Case Study” for faculty members and industrial practioners.  Participants from different parts of the country participated in the programme.  This book is an outcome of the workshop.  Experts trained in leading B-schools conducted the workshop.  An assignment was offered for the participants to collect information from industries and their research works constitute a major source for the book.  The book on “Developing Analytical Skills: Case studies in Management” provides 61 cases developed by experts from different management institutes and universities from India and abroad.  The cases reflect real life situation from different industrial sectors including services industry.

Students pursue different management courses will find the book extremely useful for class discussion and project assignments.  The cases are prepared from the viewpoint of the University examination and placement interviews on functional areas of management.  The managerial skill for the students will improve in reading the book for participating in-group discussion.  Cases prepared by experts abroad give volume of data pertaining to their industries and industrial practices.  Experts from Indian Universities give data on various industries where they have done research. Executives in organizations will find the book quite useful for taking tactical decision in HR and Marketing.  Faculty members, management trainers can recommend this book for classroom discussion.

The cases reflect practices of public, private and family business.  The business practices in select overseas organizations from Africa, Australia, Europe and Bangladesh speak about production, marketing, finance and insurance.  The cases of select public sectors in India deal with production and marketing aspects.  Live cases on entrepreneurship focus attention on product idea and entrepreneurial ventures.

The book is broadly classified into four major chapters with the case studies relevant to business across the globe. Few leading questions find place at the end of each case to ignite the learners thinking process.

Chapter one deals with Human Resource Practices
Chapter two discusses Managerial issues in Business
Chapter three is relevant to Marketing Management
Chapter four covers Business Practices.

About the Editors

Dr. B. Natarajan, is a postgraduate in commerce and management from Annamalai University and a doctorate in the area of Brand Management, is currently Reader at the Department of Business Administration, Annamalai University.  He has 25 years of teaching experience in handling MBA classes on various subjects like Managerial Economics, International Business and Entrepreneurship. He has attended several training programmes in management conducted by AIMA, New Delhi; AIMS, Coimbatore; School of Management, Pondicherry University; NLC Limited, Neyveli and Rallis India Ltd., New Delhi. He attended 30 UGC and AICTE sponsored seminars conducted in universities and presented research papers. He chaired several UGC sponsored seminars and guided number of project and research reports. Presently guiding 3 Ph.D. scholars in Management. Industrial experience in public and private sectors enabled him to take up extension assignments such as consultancy for small enterprises, guest lectures and industrial training. Published research papers in Humanities Journal of Annamalai University and articles in Customer Service Excellence Trends and Strategies. He authored book on Training and Development; Published Management Cases on Electronics Novelties in Knowledge Era, Business Cases and acted as resource person for the SLET coaching programme organized by the University. Handled training programmes organized by BSNL, NLC Ltd. Neyveli, SPB Ltd, C.C.C Ltd and District Industrial Centres; Delivered lectures in Refresher Courses conducted by Business Administration and Psychology Departments of Annamalai University and at various Colleges and Universities in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Member of AIMS,  Houston. At present he is the editor for MBA Newsletter, Journal of Annamalai Business Review and acting as Chairman Faculty Development Programme of Business Administration, Annamalai University.

Dr. S.K. Nagarajan, completed his undergraduation in Computer Science, from A.V.C. College, Mayiladuthurai, Bharathidasan University and completed M.B.A., M.Phil (Business Administration) from the Department of Business Administration, Annamalai University. He is working as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Business Administration, Annamalai University and has been awarded as Accredited Management Teacher by AIMA. He had undergone Faculty Development Programme at IIM – Ahmedabad and organized various workshops, conferences and seminars; Published research articles, case studies, presented papers in conferences and participated in various training programmes. He is in the editorial board of Annamalai Journal of Management, along with the responsibility of coordinating Alumni association activities of Department of Business Administration, Annamalai University. He is the coordinator of the Leaders Lecture Programme Series and is in the editorial board of the book “Leaders Voice… for Budding Executives…” Acting as visiting faculty member to various management institutes, delivered invited lectures for ISTE sponsored programmes and also chaired UGC sponsored seminars. Organized several Management Development Programmes and active member in various professional bodies like AIMA, MMA, CSI, ISTE, PMA.
