Writing of Synopsis
Some important points for consideration:-
The first step of any research process involves a thinking process i.e. deciding in your mind what specific area you are going to choose within your field of specialization. Say, a student is from marketing specialization, now under marketing there are numerous fields/sectors on which research can be done. For e.g. Demand analysis of any product or service, performance analysis of a product/service, comparative analysis vis-à-vis competitors; and so …on. After a thought has been generated, student can approach his/her guide for consultation and evaluate the pros and cons as well as the scope of research of the topic. Once the topic has been finalized and area of research chosen then starts the work of penning down the ideas generated which will give shape to your work in the form of synopsis in initial stages.
It is the synopsis which will form the basis and start of project work. Whatever information that a researcher puts in the synopsis in relation to: - Research Aims & Objectives and Methodology to be adopted to conduct research should be cent percent correct and accurate, that it gives an overall idea to an evaluator in brief as to what a researcher is planning to do. Synopsis should be the perfect brief of a Research Project.
Now let us have some details about “How to Write Synopsis”?
- Choosing the Topic
Your topic to be chosen should be self explanatory; which means by reading it an evaluator should know where you are aiming at. It should be carefully chosen. The choice of topic in your area of interest can come through searching the books and other literature available, Browsing Internet, discussing and taking an opinion from your concerned subject. Faculty or it you are working then help can be sought from seniors of an organization, if they are looking for some research to be done for their area of operations. Topic should be narrow, specific, and realistic. Also sufficient scope is there that it can be researched upon i.e. (Data availability). Carefully chosen topic will lead to point no.2
- urpose of the Research
Why I am doing this research? Ask this to yourself several times till you come to a conclusion. Conducting research just for the completion of project work is no good an intention. Purpose should serve three objectives. One gaining more knowledge in your area of interest and giving knowledge to the outside world out of your research. Third the research work should given benefit to the area which you have chosen. It should prove to be useful to the researcher community, industry and other scholars as well. Sometimes new should be brought out.
- Aim
Ideally should be focused only to what you want to do in the topic you have chosen. Exact strategy should be highlighted in one sentence.
- Objectives
Objectives can be broader than aim. They should be derived out of an aim. They should cover various key related aspects in a research work which need to be worked upon with main aim. Should be written down in five to six points
- Key Questions
Key questions should be based on the Aim and Objectives. They should deal with specific problems that have to be dealt with. They normally revolve around the aim of the project and should be related it, so that result which comes out after answering these questions the results that come out should be factual with minimum of errors.
- Hypothesis
Based on Key Questions it is basically an educated guess. If you have an idea what is going to happen, what you think will happen. It is prediction of a possible outcome which we are still not sure about. We can put forward both positive and negative outcomes and put to test our key questions and find out where it tilts more.
- Research Methodology
Give in brief the components of research design and its methodology. A research design lays the foundation for conducting the project. This forms the key component of evaluation procedure.
- Work Plan
Specify the time period of start and completion of every stage of project report.
- Give proposal questionnaire in the end on which whole project work’s research methodology will be based.
- Synopsis should not include the history of a company/product/service etc. and other parts of literature review as they are to be covered in detail in project work.
- Enclose the detailed CV of your guide, along with little page and covering letter to your parent institute.

You should also consider clarity of the concept, logic and content in your answer. Effectively written assignment presents the real evidence of work done towards it. |
8. |
Student is advised to submit his/ her assignments to the respective Study Centre (or to AIMA-CME, if not attached to any Study Centre) well within the due date. In case the last date of submission of assignment is a holiday, then the next working day will be considered as the last date. |
9. |
Students must begin each answer on a fresh page clearly mentioning question number with the section and sub-section number. |
10. |
Assignments will be evaluated on the basis of content, legibility, ideas and language (spellings, grammar and structure). Highlighting (bold and underlining) of key words, use of graphics and tables and logical progression of the argument in the answer will be given due weightage |
11. |
The evaluation of the assignment takes about three weeks at study centres from the last date of submission |
12. |
An assignment once evaluated would not be re-evaluated. |
13. |
Students are advised not to submit part assignments at AIMA and part assignments at Study Centres to avoid problems in generation of their Hall tickets. |
